About COPE

Mission

To demonstrate how it is possible even for poor communities to organise and manage quality education for their children. To show how teachers’ performance and motivation can be improved and students’ learning levels raised with little cost if communities come forward to share the responsibility of educating their children. To establish that school can be a place loved and enjoyed by all and that teaching and learning can be fun for both the teachers and the students.




  • Access to quality primary education by disadvantaged children ensured

  • Initiatives on affirmative actions ensured for bridging gender gaps in education

  • Community owned schools managed by Community Organizations (COs)

  • Local bodies enabled to manage the primary education sub-sector

  • Collaboration for education of the disadvantaged children within the UN System enhanced

  • Increased sharing and complementarities between COPE and national system of education ensured



Objectives

In order to achieve this goal, COPE aims to:

  • Sustain COPE-I initiatives and outcomes

  • Strengthen selected local bodies to achieve the goal of quality primary education in line with the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), Education For All (EFA) National Plan of Action and the Tenth Plan
